Kit Hevron Mahoney is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Colorado Gold By Kit Hevron Mahoney

"As an artist I find that my work is ever evolving. It is a continual process of reinventing myself in this rapidly changing world where new ideas and possibilities are constantly flowing in. I began painting in pastels, which allowed me to paint and draw at the same time. From there I moved to oils where I created impressionistic representational imagery with brush and palette knife from images photographed in my many travels. I have now added the expression of abstraction where I play with the elements of color, light, shape and texture and composition. All of my work is a joyous and challenging expression, as it requires the painting to come from within." - Kit Hevron Mahoney

Leland Beaman is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Jane Austen By Leland Beaman

"The only thing that came easily to me is expressing myself visually. Every other form of expression feels un-natural and clumsy.  Because of this learning disability or gift I try to make each creation to the best of my ability.  It is a lonely joyous life and I thank God for it." - Leland Beaman

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Janna Zuber

© Five Generations By Janna Zuber

Janna’s large family,  her travels and her gardens, provide some of the elemental ingredients in her artwork.  She uses watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, collage, oil pastels, inks  or any combination of them to create her diverse collection of artwork. She will often ask herself, “What if? or, Why not?” when creating a work. Few works leave her studio without layers of paint, glazes or collaged papers often tied together with rhythmical line.

Valerie Travers is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Spring Walk By Valerie Travers

"Painting is a huge part of my life and I try to work several hours each day. Surrounded by sea it is natural to be influenced and inspired by such changing beauty and this I try to capture in my work.  I paint in oil, acrylic, pastel and mixed media and my subjects vary according to my passion at the time. However, I am particularly drawn to seascapes and skies as they have moved me for as long as I can remember. Creativity is a wonderful gift which I use in many ways, but art is very close to my heart and something I could not live without." - Valerie Travers

Claire Bull is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Color Blocks By Claire Bull

"Creative expression and freedom are important to me, along with experimentation and exploring colour, light and texture. I love using unusual tools and techniques in creating, and acrylics/mixed media give me that freedom. I paint to music and the art changes with the music and my emotions - every painting is unique.
I am happiest in the studio - it is my own little world and I paint from my imagination so there is a lot of variety with abstracts, florals, landscapes and figurative work.  Fractals are created on the computer and take hours of work but a wonderful way to use modern technology."  - Claire Bull

"I term my Art as  EMOTION / ABSTRACTION and is a compilation of several year of study to refine a technique that allows me to convey - an emotion , a story , a journey. I perceive the essentials of a concept and develop it with color , which I believe is a important as form, articulating a complexity that allows for alternate interpretation. As the viewer becomes more involved , a personalized connection evolves ." -Ron Durnavich

Shirley Anderson is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Sunlight and Shadow By Shirley Anderson

"Some would say that artists must give up the “arts scene” to live in an out-of-the-way place with the natural beauty that we enjoy. But I say, not so. We have it all here - nature’s beauty, a climate conducive to plein air painting, and a healthy focus on art education. It doesn’t get any better than this." - Shirley Anderson

"I have always loved to draw the face and figure. If I'm not actually drawing from the posed model or sketching people going about their everyday lives, I'm probably thinking about it. I seldom miss an opportunity to draw or paint from life and I strive every day to capture not just a likeness of my subjects, but also the more elusive qualities of spirit, mood and emotion. "

© A Pair of Scissors By Jonelle McCoy

" I thank my great granddaddy for passing on the artistic genes to me; he is my guardian angel. His plain gray easel, spotted with his past smears, dots of painting, and little holes from pinning his reference materials to it is what I use; it makes me feel close to him. I still have some of his brushes, well-used, worn-out nubs that they are. One of my prized possessions is his pencil self- portrait. His favorite story told over and over when we visited him was about Van Gogh."

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Corey West Watson

© Up By Corey West Watson

"I paint because it is what I love to do. I am inspired by almost everything because I embrace the moments I am in. When it is time to paint, I am in it with my whole heart. When it is time to play with my children, I embrace it fully and forget everything else. Because of my ability to completely be in the moment and go with the flow of life's unexpected turns I can use the richness of those experiences to bring my paintings to life."

Visual Language Magazine Studio Visit with Canadian Artist and DVW Michelle McCune

Why do I paint? The simplest answer is that I have to. In 2006, I attended a workshop with John Banovich. He asked us if anyone had ever stopped doing their art. A number of us raised our hands. When he then asked what happened, it was amazing to me that we all had ended up on antidepressant medication and/or therapy. This demonstrated that a true artist is not dependent on style, media, popularity, sales, etc. but rather that it is part of who the person is. That moment was enlightening to me and opened up a new perspective on being an artist.

"For centuries, art has been a major form of communication in most civilizations.  It has also been a useful tool in recording history of these civilizations.  My goal is to do my best to proliferate artwork as a beautiful and useful tool for future civilizations.  Vivid color is my favorite tool to recreate the memorable people, places and things that I encounter in my world.  My objective is to encourage people to enjoy creative arts and to make them a part of life." - Karen Frattali

Laurel Lake McGuire is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© A Constant Soul By Laurel Lake McGuire

"I am an artist firmly grounded in the realist tradition, with a vision of capturing moments in nature and life as they are in our mind and heart. I want to convey that moment when your eye is arrested and your mind is illuminated with the soul of a scene. I think of my paintings as both accessible and open to deeper exploration. Art is a window that lets the viewer see through both their eyes and mine."- Laurel Lake McGuire

Linda McCoy is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Strawberry Fields By Linda McCoy

"Sunlight fuels my passion to create art. I am fascinated by the way it passes through a transparent flower petal, how it dances through glass, warms the top of an apple and appoints sentiment to ordinary objects. Capturing that transformation when an object is illuminated into something previously unseen is what truly inspires me. This light is what drives me to share my perception with others; and is a reminder to cherish the nuances of life." -Linda McCoy

Visual Language Magazine Studio Visit with UK Artist Tony O'Connor

I’m now three years a full time artist.

I had studied Fine Art back in the late nineties, and graduated with an Honors Degree and a head full of confusion on what to do next with my life. I decided that working full time in a non art related job would be just the thing to sort my life out and there I stayed. For the most of a decade, slowly going crazy, and almost developing a nervous twitch anytime I had to deal with a member of the public.

”My desire, though, is to stimulate art viewers to explore their own interpretation of my work.  When they connect with the art, I’ve succeeded. This is a process balanced between the artist’s creative desire and the interpretive acts of viewers. Art is ultimately about that human connection.” - Mark Yearwood
