Most of my work is on the small side, so that the viewer can experience intimately, as one might experience one’s own self in contemplation or a lover in the act of love, the depth and complexities of attachments, attraction and energy in the physical world. Men and women, where they appear in my work, represent all men and women, my couples, all couples of all kinds. My work is about our One-ness, our same-ness, and, perhaps ironically, our marvelous diversity and uniqueness. I see woman as Goddesses, men as Gods and all of us as the creators of our realities...personally and passionately empowered. I see the earth as nothing short of a wonderland. I stand in constant awe of every aspect of life and I create to honor it.

Vanessa Katz is VL Magazine Artist of the Day
Vanessa Katz loves the freedom that abstracts give her to express her emotions and desires to evoke emotions through her work. She is fascinated with shapes, colors, textures, movement and the shape between the shapes, nature and trees and this can be seen evident in her work.

" I thank my great granddaddy for passing on the artistic genes to me; he is my guardian angel. His plain gray easel, spotted with his past smears, dots of painting, and little holes from pinning his reference materials to it is what I use; it makes me feel close to him. I still have some of his brushes, well-used, worn-out nubs that they are. One of my prized possessions is his pencil self- portrait. His favorite story told over and over when we visited him was about Van Gogh."- Jonelle McCoy

Lelija Roy is VL Magazine Artist of the Day
Each piece expresses unique rhythms and textures of the living earth. Lelija seeks out the interconnectedness of organic and inorganic elements. These glimpses encompass: the hazy light of early morning, the wind in an aspen grove, the silent struggle of a pinion pine on a canyon wall or the rush of the waterfall.

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Sanda Manuila
"In my work, I aim to seize the paradox of the union of opposites, in particular the polar tension between life and death. Nature's time is not linear, but rather cyclic, what happened once is destined to occur again. Death is end, but also beginning. The distant past is present in every moment, and the future has already happened. Rather than progression, it is repetition, like a Monarch butterfly, ending at the beginning. It happens in the place where the grape vine dies, pulled out, to be replanted in the spring.
In order to represent the connection between reality and illusion, I focus my emotions and thoughts to construct meaning, applying oil paint and glazes layer after layer, adding impressions of light. I create inner landscapes from which exhude a metaphorical quality."

"I have loved painting for as long as I can remember. Drawing and painting have always been a way to recreate and refresh my spirit. Painting is not something I have to do or I shall die sort of thing....it is just that I have a joy and passion for oil painting and feel more whole when in front of a canvas with my paint brushes in hand."

Simon Kenny is VL Magazine Artist of the Day
Simon's fascination with the world around him is palpable through his work. His depictions of nature form a myriad of emotions as he uses painting as a manner in which to better understand the human condition to which we are all bound. The beauty of his work is how it compliments and reflects your own thoughts and feelings. At times an image can seem tranquil and harmonized whereas on a different day, the same scene can appear tumultuous and unruly. This emotional creativity is the heart and soul of Simons abstract paintings and by infusing his own distinctive style with a radical turneresque quality, these vibrant images are totally unique in every sense.

Carol Jo Smidt is VL Magazine Artist of the Day
"My paintings are a result of a thoughtful, ongoing, creative and intuitive process. Creating art is a spiritual journey. It is somewhat of a surprise where a painting will lead me. I find that my paintings are more vivid and saturated than real life. I see color in a subject and intensify those hues in a painting. One of my goals is to bring honor and respect to the subjects that I paint. As a creator of art, I want the viewer to have a positive connection with my paintings." Carol Jo Smidt

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Phyllis Mantik deQuevedo

©Will Dance For Food By Phyllis Mantik deQueverdo |
Phyllis believes that her own introduction to sculpture was by design. From her earliest experiences of completing a sculpture, seeing a form emerge from a lump of clay, she has delighted in creating. Out of this personal joy she also senses responsibility, as a sculptor, to create work that adds value to our existence, to evoke a smile, to touch someone’s heart and for a moment to capture his or her emotions. When someone relates to her sculpture from their experience, it gives the work meaning and keeps it alive. Her desire as a sculptor is to be someone who represents goodness in life by creating, teaching, learning, discovering, sharing, and serving.

After years of childhood art awards, sculpture became Jeanne's passion at 15 with her first stone and wood carving high school projects. She next received a BFA in figurative sculpture and watercolor and studied in France at the École des Beaux Arts. That training along with years of experience as a commercial designer and illustrator helped form her style, technique and sensibilities into the talented artist she is today.

Nancee Jean Busse is VL Magazine Artist of the Day
"I paint the things that make life worth living for me: landscapes, the natural world, and wildlife, especially birds. These things remind me that life is elegant and beautiful. Sometimes I paint simple things that feel vivid and full of life, like flowers or pets, or an image I can’t get off my mind.I paint using acrylics, brushes, and panels or canvas. The vibrant colors and creamy textures of modern acrylic paint make me happy. Depending upon the subject matter, I either apply the paint thickly and pay close attention to each brushstroke, or use layer upon layer of thin, light-refracting glazes. My subject matter is important in determining the method with which I paint.I paint realistically because I developed my drawing skills from an early age. Now I am exploring ways to combine my realistic style with less representational elements. I am striving to honor the beauty of the natural world within the context of my own inner vision. I paint because I love it!"

Barbara Jones is VL Magazine Artist of the Day
"The beauty of the ordinary is what I try to capture in my paintings. We are surrounded by unlimited opportunities to share with others the unique qualities of color, light and form that are part of our everyday lives. Too often we overlook the simple beauty of God's creations or pass them by. Whether it's the quiet glow of a sunlit morning, the softness of a cloudy afternoon or the interplay of colors and form in a still life arrangement--I try to capture in my paintings the unique light and atmosphere of my subjects. I work from life, and I want viewers to feel like they're seeing what I'm seeing--on that day, in that place, in that way." - Barbara Jones

"I was raised in rural Montana near the Yellowstone River and loved it there. My folks were big Charlie Russell fans – it helped to boost my interest in western art at an early age. Mom gave me a paintbrush and small oil painting set when I was eight. Dad was always sketching horses, especially buckin’ broncs, rattlesnakes and a lot of other non-girly things for me on newsprint from an old pad of paper."

Debbie Hughbanks is VL Magazine Artist of the Day
"I paint because I must paint. The creation of art is a passion, a need and a desire that I feel I must meet on some level every day whether it is simply planning the composition of the next work in my mind or placing the finishing touches on the pastel or painting I have had in progress for days. My inspirations come from the animals, people and surroundings that I love . . . for I find I am passionate about these things, as well, and want to be able to share them with others through my work. My hope is that the joy I feel in the creation of each piece will come through to those who view my art and that something in a particular painting will speak to each viewer on a very personal level. Who could ask for more as an artist?"
