VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Demian Dressler

© Prismatica By Demian Dressler

Demian’s statement concerning his art reflects the depth and sophistication underlying his works: “My intention in this creative process is to bypass the mind and go beyond emotion, towards that incomprehensible longing within…to yield to that ceaseless pull towards an unknowable familiarity that seems just beyond our reach…to create a metempsychosis, a transfer of purest living essence, purest expression…to presence a surging freedom with relieving satisfaction.”

Victoria Pendragon is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Got It! By Victoria Pendragon
Most of my work is on the small side, so that the viewer can experience intimately, as one might experience one’s own self in contemplation or a lover in the act of love, the depth and complexities of attachments, attraction and energy in the physical world. Men and women, where they appear in my work, represent all men and women, my couples, all couples of all kinds. My work is about our One-ness, our same-ness, and, perhaps ironically, our marvelous diversity and uniqueness. I see woman as Goddesses, men as Gods and all of us as the creators of our realities...personally and passionately empowered. I see the earth as nothing short of a wonderland. I stand in constant awe of every aspect of life and I create to honor it.

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Cindy Keichinger

© English Cousin By Cindy Keichinger
"I have yet to do a painting that I think exactly measures up to what I was attempting, but what is life with out challenges?  The world is an interesting place, with lots of wonderful things to see and explore; I try to capture this attitude in my work.  There is a definite “nothing ventured nothing gained” approach to how I do things.  Being self taught, has freed me from the “you can’t do this”, or the “you can’t mix that”  that formal training would have given me.  There is a real sence of freedom when I try my hand at another challenge."  - Cindy Keichinger

Sanda Manuila is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© A Twisted Mind By Sanda Manuila

"In my work, I aim to seize the paradox of the union of opposites, in particular the polar tension between life and death.  Nature's time is not linear, but rather cyclic, what happened once is destined to occur again.  Death is end, but also beginning.  The distant past is present in every moment, and the future has already happened.  Rather than progression, it is repetition, like a Monarch butterfly, ending at the beginning.  It happens in the place where the grape vine dies, pulled out, to be replanted in the spring.
In order to represent the connection between reality and illusion, I focus my emotions and thoughts to construct meaning, applying oil paint and glazes layer after layer, adding impressions of light.  I create inner landscapes from which exhude a metaphorical quality."

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Judy Wilder Dalton

© Three To Sail By Judy Wilder Dalton

"Whether I am painting a bold and abstract painting on paper or canvas, or painting a landscape or still life, or using the colors and texture of gemstones and wire,  I find that art is a part of how we live. I hope that my art reflects how I see life....with great appreciation and gratitude!" - Judy Wilder Dalton

Lelija Roy is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Just Rambling By Lelija Roy

Each piece expresses unique rhythms and textures of the living earth. Lelija seeks out the interconnectedness of organic and inorganic elements. These glimpses encompass: the hazy light of early morning, the wind in an aspen grove, the silent struggle of a pinion pine on a canyon wall or the rush of the waterfall.

© Companions By Terrye Philley

"I have loved painting for as long as I can remember.  Drawing and painting have always been a way to recreate and refresh my spirit.  Painting is not something I have to do or I shall die sort of thing....it is just that I have a joy and passion for oil painting and feel more whole when in front of a canvas with my paint brushes in hand."

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Simon Kenny

© Charge By Simon Kenny

Simon's fascination with the world around him is palpable through his work. His depictions of nature form a myriad of emotions as he uses painting as a manner in which to better understand the human condition to which we are all bound.  The beauty of his work is how it compliments and reflects your own thoughts and feelings. At times an image can seem tranquil and harmonized whereas on a different day, the same scene can appear tumultuous and unruly. This emotional creativity is the heart and soul of Simons abstract paintings and by infusing his own distinctive style with a radical turneresque quality, these vibrant images are totally unique in every sense.

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Jonelle McCoy

© #13 June 4th (Summer 2014 60 Series) By Jonelle McCoy
" I thank my great granddaddy for passing on the artistic genes to me; he is my guardian angel. His plain gray easel, spotted with his past smears, dots of painting, and little holes from pinning his reference materials to it is what I use; it makes me feel close to him. I still have some of his brushes, well-used, worn-out nubs that they are. One of my prized possessions is his pencil self- portrait. His favorite story told over and over when we visited him was about Van Gogh."- Jonelle McCoy

Carol Jo Smidt is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Prime By Carol Jo Smidt

"My paintings are a result of a thoughtful, ongoing, creative and intuitive process. Creating art is a spiritual journey. It is somewhat of a surprise where a painting will lead me. I find that my paintings are more vivid and saturated than real life. I see color in a subject and intensify those hues in a painting. One of my goals is to bring honor and respect to the subjects that I paint. As a creator of art, I want the viewer to have a positive connection with my paintings." Carol Jo Smidt

Connie Chadwell is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© The Seated Model By Connie Chadwell

"I have always loved to draw the face and figure. If I'm not actually drawing from the posed model or sketching people going about their everyday lives, I'm probably thinking about it. I seldom miss an opportunity to draw or paint from life and I strive every day to capture not just a likeness of my subjects, but also the more elusive qualities of spirit, mood and emotion. "

Carol Brody is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Fire Bird By Carol Brody

"The common thread in my artwork is the search for tension between
structure and spontaneity. During my years as a functional potter throwing
porcelain on the wheel, I strived to leave traces of my hand and to indicate the
nature of the medium in each piece. Applying thick clay slip to thrown forms
created this tension." - Carol Brody

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Janine Kilty

© Novelle By Janine Kilty
"I work in a realistic style that draws on my studies in atelier painting techniques to create contemporary works that have been described as evocative and engaging.  I am especially inspired by the works of Velasquez, Sargent, Sorolla and Beaux.

To me, every image is a narrative: not only genre scenes, but every still life and portrait, as well.  Sometimes the story is obvious, sometimes it is enigmatic. Often the story that emerges with one of my paintings surprises me. With portraiture, I strive not only to capture the likeness, but to find the "story": the spark of personality, the force of experience and the promise of things to come.  Like a story, I believe a painting is only completed with the engagement of the viewer.

I believe the primary goal of any painter should be to create beautiful images, no matter what the message." - Janine Kilty

Valerie Travers is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Starburst By Valerie Travers
"Painting is a huge part of my life and I try to work several hours each day. Surrounded by sea it is natural to be influenced and inspired by such changing beauty and this I try to capture in my work.  I paint in oil, acrylic, pastel and mixed media and my subjects vary according to my passion at the time. However, I am particularly drawn to seascapes and skies as they have moved me for as long as I can remember. Creativity is a wonderful gift which I use in many ways, but art is very close to my heart and something I could not live without." - Valerie Travers

Linda McCoy is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Blue Hydrangea By Linda McCoy

"Sunlight fuels my passion to create art. I am fascinated by the way it passes through a transparent flower petal, how it dances through glass, warms the top of an apple and appoints sentiment to ordinary objects. Capturing that transformation when an object is illuminated into something previously unseen is what truly inspires me. This light is what drives me to share my perception with others; and is a reminder to cherish the nuances of life." -Linda McCoy

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Laura Reed

© Prism By Laura Reed
"The inspiration for my abstract work comes from my life experiences; travel, nature, my environment, all culminating in a magical sort of way. It is usually subconscious, and impetuous, sparked by something seemingly as trivial as a word or a feeling. I strive not to answer the question of what my images mean but to encourage the viewer's curiosity. When the work invokes the feeling of "curiouser and curiouser" (thank you Alice) then I have achieved my goal." - Laura Reed

Stacey Pollard is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Hive By Stacey Pollard

"My paintings start with images in landscape. I use many layers of acrylic glazes, and also add texture with handmade papers or other materials. Grid marks, sketch lines, and remnants of materials remain embedded in the work, so that some marks from every layer are in the finished piece. I am interested in changing the representational image at the beginning into something more abstract." - Stacey Pollard
