VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Cindy Keichinger

© In A World Of Her Own By Cindy Keichinger

"I have yet to do a painting that I think exactly measures up to what I was attempting, but what is life with out challenges?  The world is an interesting place, with lots of wonderful things to see and explore; I try to capture this attitude in my work.  There is a definite “nothing ventured nothing gained” approach to how I do things.  Being self taught, has freed me from the “you can’t do this”, or the “you can’t mix that”  that formal training would have given me.  There is a real sence of freedom when I try my hand at another challenge."  - Cindy Keichinger

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Lelija Roy

Each piece expresses unique rhythms and textures of the living earth. Lelija seeks out the interconnectedness of organic and inorganic elements. These glimpses encompass: the hazy light of early morning, the wind in an aspen grove, the silent struggle of a pinion pine on a canyon wall or the rush of the waterfall.

Isabelle Gautier is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Wendy's Style By Isabelle Gautier

"Is there a better way than art to bring people from all over the world together in a celebration of beauty?
Painting is the way I reach out to people.  My favorite tool, the palette knife, allows me to keep the deep pigments in the acrylic paint, my preferred medium. In each painting there is a little something unexpected, a small “je ne sais quoi”, at the point of creation, which makes my art original.  It can be an odd stroke, an unnatural balance, a particular color or design… My inspiration is to paint until I find my own balance where the art lover can feel an emotional and/or intellectual connection. My quest is not to create the illusion of reality but to suggest with colors and composition the inherent nature of the aesthetic object or feeling."

Jonelle McCoy is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

" I thank my great granddaddy for passing on the artistic genes to me; he is my guardian angel. His plain gray easel, spotted with his past smears, dots of painting, and little holes from pinning his reference materials to it is what I use; it makes me feel close to him. I still have some of his brushes, well-used, worn-out nubs that they are. One of my prized possessions is his pencil self- portrait. His favorite story told over and over when we visited him was about Van Gogh."- Jonelle McCoy

Bob Coonts is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Indoor Weather Vane By Bob Coonts

"Colors, as used by the Fauvists, the challenge of composition and the excitement of discovery impact my work and style.  Animals, plants, landscapes and people provide a wealth of subject matter.  Combining a sense of warmth, graceful movements and detail give release to a style bordering on abstract by reflecting a true image."

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Carol Jo Smidt

© Old Jake By Carol Jo Smidt

"My paintings are a result of a thoughtful, ongoing, creative and intuitive process. Creating art is a spiritual journey. It is somewhat of a surprise where a painting will lead me. I find that my paintings are more vivid and saturated than real life. I see color in a subject and intensify those hues in a painting. One of my goals is to bring honor and respect to the subjects that I paint. As a creator of art, I want the viewer to have a positive connection with my paintings." Carol Jo Smidt

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Jana Kappeler

© Water, Light, and Air By Jana Kappeler

"I have always loved color and use it freely in my work.  I believe that life is supposed to be vibrant and light filled.  Color enhances that viewpoint.  If life were black and white, it might be simpler, but it would also be boring.  I choose to live life in full color and keep my creative energy alive by experimentation.  I’m prepared to make and embrace mistakes and find little moments that work."-Jana Kappeler

Barbara Haviland is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© West Texas View By Barbara Haviland

"I am mostly a self-taught, raw artist who draws inspiration from the world around me.  I love taking workshops to further my learning.  You can never cease to learn something new.  I usually paint from my photos.  I love bright, bold, rich colors.  I feel satisfied when someone can see the love I have put into the piece that I have created whether it is a landscape, a floral, a portrait, or a seascape. At this stage in my art career, I enjoy painting in Plein Air.  It is both exciting and frustrating.  Light changes, and shadows move, but I love it!  A paint brush is my favorite tool.  You can just about do anything with a brush and some paint.  Painting brings out my passion.  It is like reading a book; you can go anywhere.  It is my escape.  The problems of the world fade away.  For a few moments, it is just me and the canvas.  I feel as though I am meant to create art.  GOD has blessed me in this way." - Barbara Haviland

VL Magazine Artist of the Day is Denise Bossarte

© Fort Meyers Sunset 01 By Denise Bossarte
"My photography is in the Miksang Contemplative Photography style. Miksang photography is a Shambhala Buddhist Contemplative practice that focuses on direct perception of the world, without conceptualizations; it is photography that connects the photographer with non-conceptual awareness.

Often with this type of photography, the photographer will be stopped in their tracks by perceptions that completely interrupt the flow of mental activity, that freeze them in the moment. The craft is to capture that moment with the camera so that people viewing the photographs can then have the same experience.

With Miksang photography, there is no staging; no altering of the environment, the shot, or the images before, during, or after the shot is taken. What you see in these images is what I saw at the moment I took the pictures." - Denise Bossarte

Linda McCoy is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Whisper By Linda McCoy

"Sunlight fuels my passion to create art. I am fascinated by the way it passes through a transparent flower petal, how it dances through glass, warms the top of an apple and appoints sentiment to ordinary objects. Capturing that transformation when an object is illuminated into something previously unseen is what truly inspires me. This light is what drives me to share my perception with others; and is a reminder to cherish the nuances of life." -Linda McCoy

Howard Tweedie is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Wharf By Howard Tweedie

Born in Malaysia of Aussie and Scots parents, Howard is an emerging artist who is lucky enough to live and work mainly in Australia. His passions are for colour and movement and the strange wonder of what we’re seeing – in people, places and objects.

Howard has a particular interest in impressionistic plein air landscape painting and in portraiture in oils and pastels - taking inspiration from artists such as Monet, Cezanne, Serov, Augustus John and Sorolla as well as many other contemporary artists.

He enjoys the never-ending challenge of attempting to master the tonal richness, subtleties and daring of oil as well as the freshness and vitality of pastel. Somehow to balance subtlety and boldness. Painting outdoors gives that extra sense of life, sometimes!

Howard currently works mainly outdoors and from his Artarmon studio. He studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, the Royal Art Society of NSW and with Studio Escalier, France.

Howard’s works are held in prestigious private collections in Australia, UK, France and Vietnam.

"My mission is to create colorful paintings which will record this beauty.
I  love to paint.  Painting gives me a joy in my heart that cannot be described through spoken words. The act of creating through the paint brush is a challenge and provides a sense of accomplishment when it is finished. With God's blessing I will continue to create paintings that demonstrate His glory for many years to come.   It is my hope that you will enjoy my art and that it will enrich your life as it has done mine. David Terrar is VL Magazine Artist of the Day

© Light From Darkness, Golden Hour By David Terrar

"I am now at a point where I can devote myself entirely to painting.  For the past few years I have been working full time painting with some considerable success and sales even in the current economic downturn.  I love Maryland's Chesapeake Bay region.  I find there is a spiritual connection by painting  plein air landscapes in the marshes, swamps, wet lands, a lot of grass, water and workboats of crabbers and oystermen.  My ideas for paintings come from observing rural Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay region, particularly late in the day as the sun is about to go down.  When I am alone in solitude near the Bay, I feel the presence of the Creator.   We have been given a brief glimpse of beauty.  It is our duty to share the beauty." - David Terrar
